ITALY/Ethan's visit! Part 2 - Rome

When in Rome...

ITALY/Ethan's visit! Part 1 - Florence

Ethan arrived on a Friday morning and I showed him around Rotterdam for a while before sitting down for a nice Dutch dinner of stampot (potato/kale/sausage mash) and apple pie.  We headed for Eindhoven for the night because we had to catch an early RyanAir flight to the Florence/Pisa airport the next morning.

We were greeted in Pisa by gorgeous weather.  We headed on the train to Florence and met Hannah there!  She took us to the best pizza in town and we ate it in Piazza Santa Croce.  Our first day in Florence, we went into the Duomo and up to the top of it (for a spectacular view -see the pictures!), checked out some bronze doors (The Gates of Paradise), ate gelato after crossing Ponte Vecchio, and spent our evening looking at the city from the Piazzale Michelangelo. We enjoyed a nice Italian dinner and explored the city by foot.

Our second day happened to be Daylight Savings day.  As it turned out, Italy didn't change its clocks back, but we did.  We woke up at about 5am local time and wandered around the city wondering why nothing was open.  Luckily, it also happened to be Women's Day in Florence, so I got in free to all the museums.  We went to the Bargello, Accademia (to see David), and the Uffizi.   We also went into Santa Croce, wandered through tons of gorgeous Piazzas, and did some much needed sitting.  At night, we met up with Hannah again and walked to the Sinagoga and enjoyed our last meal in Florence.
